February proves itself

The "february obsession" for fishing around here was justified by the catches I was fortunate to make this month. In 18 days on the water, I and my clients totalled 29 trout over 7 lbs. 11 of those weighed in the 8s, 4 in the 9s and I had one 10. Highlights included a day with 8 over 7 lbs and a run of five straight trips at the end of the month in which we caught a trout 9 lbs or better. Personally, this is the best month ever for me, as far as catching "extreme" fish, which I describe as those over 8 lbs. Amazingly, 27 of the 29 big trout bit sinking Corkys/FatBoys. Most were found in waist deep water, especially early in the month. Lately, more and more are showing up shallower, barely over knee deep. I look for this spring to be awesome; all the water standing in the pastures might hold the winds down some. If so, expect to see more pictures of wallhanger trout on the photos page!! I do still have open dates in March and more in April and beyond....
